Coventry City have reportedly placed right-back Milan van Ewijk on the summer transfer market, with Premier League side Wolves among those offered the Dutch defender’s services. According to the Coventry Telegraph, the Sky Blues have set a price tag of £15 million for the 24-year-old, who made 45 appearances in the Championship last season and was instrumental in the play-offs with two assists.
City’s willingness to sell appears to be part of a broader summer reshuffle under Frank Lampard. The defender, who is under contract until 2027, has now caught the attention of both Premier League and Bundesliga sides. German journalist Florian Plettenberg stated that “VfL Wolfsburg are pushing to sign Milan van Ewijk. Talks with the player are already at an advanced stage.”
Despite being ‘offered’ van Ewijk, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is reportedly prioritising other targets. Espanyol’s Omar El Hilali is said to be of higher interest, with earlier Wolves targets Marc Pubill and Juanlu Sanchez likely heading to Atletico Madrid and Napoli respectively.
However, with those deals slipping away, Wolves may revisit van Ewijk later in the window. The Dutchman’s consistent output and stamina — featuring in almost every league match — could make him an attractive fallback option.

Signs that Coventry are preparing for van Ewijk’s departure are already emerging. Frank Lampard is reportedly eyeing Ipswich Town defender Harry Clarke, who impressed during a loan spell with Sheffield United last season. Ipswich are expected to sell Clarke now rather than risk losing him for free when his contract expires in 2026.
This development suggests a strategic move by Coventry to maximise the current value of van Ewijk while reshaping the squad. Offering him to Premier League clubs signals an intention not only to cash in but also to showcase their talent at the highest level.
Van Ewijk’s next move could hinge on which club values his potential more. Wolfsburg seem further along in negotiations, but Wolves’ late interest may trigger a bidding war if other defensive targets fall through. His pace, work rate and attacking output from right-back are traits that translate well into both the Premier League and Bundesliga systems.
As Coventry look to rebuild, a £15m deal would mark a tidy profit and could help Lampard accelerate his plans. For Wolves, van Ewijk could offer a smart alternative if their preferred options are no longer available.
From a Wolves perspective, the report raises more than a few eyebrows. Milan van Ewijk is the type of player fans want to see the club act fast on — young, proven over a full Championship season, and with plenty of development still to come. Given the reported price tag of £15 million, there’s a compelling case to be made for striking a deal now rather than waiting until options dry up.
While Omar El Hilali may be the first-choice target for Vitor Pereira, the harsh reality of the transfer market is that Plan A often slips through the cracks. With Pubill and Sanchez seemingly heading abroad, Wolves should be pragmatic.
Van Ewijk’s attacking output — particularly his two assists in crucial play-off fixtures — demonstrates his big-game temperament. With the right coaching, he could evolve into the kind of modern, dynamic full-back that thrives in the Premier League.
Fans may feel uneasy about Wolves dragging their heels. “Offered” a player of van Ewijk’s calibre and turning it down outright, even with alternatives in mind, feels like a risk. If Wolfsburg complete a deal and he shines in Germany, questions will inevitably be asked of Wolves’ recruitment strategy.
If Wolves truly aim to progress this season, depth and quality at full-back are essential. Van Ewijk ticks those boxes. The opportunity to sign him is on the table — Wolves just need to take it before it’s gone.
