Kicker reports that former Manchester United midfield prospect Maxi Oyedele is in VfL Wolfsburg’s sights. More than one Bundesliga club takes interest in the 20-year-old. Werder Bremen were also linked with a move for the Salford-native yesterday. Oyedele remains available via a €6m release clause in his current Legia Warsaw contract.
Wolfsburg naturally have deeper pockets than the likes of Bremen, but have their own matters to sort out first. Germany’s northern Autostädter still seek a new head coach ahead of next season. Moreover, Germany’s green company team happen to be well-stocked in midfield.
Oyedele may be reluctant to move to Wolfsburg merely to warm the bench behind the likes of Maximilian Arnold, Yannick Gerhardt, Aster Vranckx, Mattias Svanberg, and Bence Dardai. Vranckx and Gerhardt are linked with departures, but Oyedele may wish to see a path cleared first.
Wolfsburg management may also wish to focus on compensating for other expected losses first. German striker Lukas Nmecha and Polish winger Jakub Kaminski are expected to sign with new clubs soon.
