Ruben Amorim has certainly shaken things up at Manchester United since taking the reins in November, and some players have been left worse off by his arrival.
One of those is Christian Eriksen, who has not featured at all since Amorim’s first game in the dugout.
He was deployed from the off at Portman Road on November 24 and played for 68 minutes before being replaced, not knowing it would be his last run of action for almost three weeks. At this rate, you’d struggle to see how he returns to the fold, given the stark competition in the middle of the park.
After Amorim’s maiden match, which saw United draw 1-1 with Premier League newbies Ipswich Town, Alan Shearer claimed it would be ‘impossible’ for Eriksen – and his counterpart Casemiro – to meet the new head coach’s expectations in his newly implemented system.
“For a start, he’s (Amorim) got injuries in midfield, hasn’t he? I mean, he played Casemiro and Eriksen,” the ex-Newcastle United star told the panel.
“It would be nigh on impossible for those two to do what he wants in terms of the press and the high energy and the sprint and the running and everything else.”

Alas, it seems as though Amorim has also come to this conclusion, as Florian Plettenberg revealed on Friday that the club are now ‘willing to sell’ the Dane should a suitable offer arrive in the January window.
That is, however, somewhat unlikely to happen. Any clubs keeping tabs on Eriksen’s availability will be well aware that they can snap him up for nothing next June and will, therefore, avoid meeting United’s demands before sanctioning his arrival ahead of the 2026/2026 campaign.
The 32-year-old has racked up 86 appearances in red, having joined soon after Erik ten Hag, who thought he was ‘magnificent’, took charge at Old Trafford. In that time, he’s scored seven goals and assisted a further 16.
