Former Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas has tipped Spurs to finish in the top four this season after their big-money move for Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham needed a prolific striker to lead the line, with Richarlison struggling to prove himself as a reliable goalscoring outlet, and Solanke ticked all their boxes.

The striker had a phenomenal campaign for Bournemouth last term, notching 19 goals and three assists in 38 Premier League games.

Solanke subsequently joined Spurs in a £65 million deal, and they will hope he can replicate his fine form.

Speaking after Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Monday, Gallas praised Solanke’s signing but claimed a fourth-placed finish would be as good as it gets for them.

“I really like Dom Solanke,” Gallas said. “I think that he is a quality signing for Tottenham.

“Spurs have been crying out for a striker that can score 20 goals in the Premier League, and they have gone out and got one.

“He’s 26 years old, which is a good age for a player. There is still room to develop before he hits his peak.

“At Tottenham, he will be playing with better players, and he will have more opportunities to score goals. I think it’s a really smart signing from the club.”

However, when asked whether Solanke can help Tottenham challenge for the title, Gallas set his sights a little lower.

“I don’t want to burst the Tottenham fans bubble, but I’m not convinced that it will be a great season for the club,” Gallas added.

“I don’t expect Tottenham to challenge for the Premier League title. Maybe they can finish fourth. Maybe they will finish fifth again.

“I think Tottenham’s season will be determined by how Ange Postecoglou wants to play and how well the squad deals with the rigours of playing every Thursday and Sunday with the Europa League.”

Tottenham kicked off the 2024/25 season with a disappointing draw against newly promoted Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Postecoglou will be hoping his side can step things up when they host Everton this weekend.
