There have been requests to postpone Sunday’s Serie A match between Fiorentina and Juventus, and even if the weather situation in Florence improves, a final decision has yet to be made.
Florence city council vice-president Alessandro Draghi requested on Friday to postpone Sunday’s Serie A match between Fiorentina and Juventus at the Franchi.
Heavy rainfall in Florence and its surroundings triggered flood warnings. On Friday, the Rimaggio stream overflowed in Piazza del Mercato in Sesto Fiorentino, and schools remained closed in Florence and its region on Friday and Saturday.

The weather situation in Florence, from where we are writing, improved on Saturday morning.
As reported by Repubblica, a red alert remains in effect in the Tuscan capital until 14:00 local time today (13:00 GMT). Until then, Schools, parks, gardens, cemeteries, markets, green areas, libraries, sports facilities, and museums remain closed. Cultural and sporting events have been cancelled.
Local authorities, firefighters and Civil Defence are still working locally to ensure security in the areas that have been hit more severely in recent hours.
The developments in the coming hours will determine whether Fiorentina-Juventus will be played or not.
The match is still scheduled to kick off at 18:00 CET (17:00 GMT) on Sunday.
