Desire Doue has been a hot topic amongst PSG fans this season. The 19-year-old has put in stellar performances for the club, scoring four goals and notching six assists in 26 appearances. These numbers are remarkable considering he isn't usually a starter for Luis Enrique's side.
He was rewarded for his performances with a call-up, to the French national team in the March international break. In the first leg against Croatia, he was an unused sub with Warren Zaire Emery. In the second half of the second leg at Parc Des Princes, Désiré Doué replaced Barcola and made his first official appearance with the senior national team. The game went to penalties, and in the penalty shootout Doué scored his penalty.
The French champions may regret signing Khvicha if Doue keeps performing as an impact sub off the bench. Let's explore why he has the potential to be a superstar.
Desire Doue plays similarly to Riyad Mahrez and Neymar. His street style, laid back sort of dribbling, is similar to theirs as it is just so smooth and elegant, and he has a similar skinny build too. The 19-year-old has a bit of Neymar in his physical movements, which isn't a surprise as Neymar was his idol growing up.
He is just as good at dribbling as the likes of Lamine Yamal, Jadon Sancho, and Jamal Musiala. Being an amazing dribbler makes him incredibly difficult to stop when he is running at you. Apart from knowing how to take a man on, he has an unreal eye for a pass, is lethal in counters, and can be effective for low blocks, as he knows how to find spaces.
Doue has put up reasonable numbers in the limited game time he has had so far. In 26 appearances, he has scored four goals and notched six assists. The 19-year-old could easily have been discouraged by the news that PSG were getting Khvicha, but instead he chose to work harder.
This is a testament to his mentality as a player, and it will be exciting to see how he develops as he gets older. If he keeps producing, Luis Enrique will have a selection headache as Bradley Barcola and Khvicha have done well this season. Strong competition for places will only get the best out of the players in Enrique's squad as they know they can't afford to underperform.
