Why Barcelona star is being whistled by Real Sociedad fans

Barcelona star Iñigo Martínez has been singled out for a rough reception on the part of the home fans during the club’s meeting with Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Why, though, is this the case?

Iñigo has for his part been plying his trade in the colours of Barcelona since the summer of 2023.

Prior to his arrival in Catalunya’s capital, though, the defender’s prior transfer came as an altogether controversial one.

After spending 12 years on the books of the aforementioned Real Sociedad, Iñigo opted to depart Anoeta for none other than Basque rivals Athletic Club, in 2018.

And this decision, a full six years on, has evidently still not been forgiven by supporters of the former.

In turn, on each and every occasion in which the 33-year-old finds himself in possession at Anoeta this evening, Iñigo is being targeted with widespread whistles and jeers by the Sociedad faithful.
