Arsenal strongly considered making a move to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo during the summer transfer window, according to Team News and Ticks on Patreon.

The Gunners account, famous for leaking team news on the internet and followed by the likes of Dharmesh Sheth, David Ornstein, Fabrizio Romano and Gary Jacobs on X (formerly known as Twitter), has been a trusted source concerning all things Arsenal for months, and he provided an update on some of the transfers the Gunners failed to do last month.

The data team of the North London club had Mbeumo really high on their list, but completing a move for him was always unlikely to be impossible this summer.

The 25-year-old has three goals in the opening three Premier League games of 2024-25 after ending last term with nine league goals and six assists.

Mbeumo also bagged nine league goals in 2022-23, weighing in with eight assists, and adding such an attacker to their ranks would have been great for Arsenal.

However, the Bees would have rejected any bid for the Cameroon international once it became clear that Ivan Toney was leaving.

Brentford would not been ready to lose two key forwards in a single window, but the Gunners could keep keeping tabs on Mbeumo and move for him next summer if need be.

He notched eight goals and ten assists in 47 Championship games back in 2020-21 to help the London club seal Premier League promotion and has continued to impress since then.

The former Troyes star has largely been under the radar due to Toney, but he would likely score at least 15 league games per season playing for one of the big clubs, and he is on course to bag at least ten league goals this season.

Arsenal eventually snapped up England international forward Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea, and manager Mikel Arteta will hope the former Manchester City star hits the ground running.
