The Premier League season is fast approaching the halfway point, with plenty of surprises so far.

Liverpool have built a lead at the top and their closest challengers Chelsea have made more progress than most expected. Manchester City, meanwhile, have struggled.

There is still a long way to go, but from what we have seen so far, who could be crowned the Player of the Season come the end of it? We have a look at the main contenders…

Cole Palmer

Palmer burst onto the scene last year, shining at Chelsea following his move from Manchester City despite the team’s inconsistency and has further established himself as one of the best players in the division by helping Chelsea to launch an unlikely title challenge.

The attacking midfielder has scored 11 goals in 16 league games so far while assisting six times. It has become harder for him, with teams actively man marking him now they are more aware of his talent but he has risen to the challenge.

Mo Salah

Salah has showed no signs of slowing down and his goals have propelled Liverpool to become title frontrunners in Arne Slot’s first season in charge. He has scored 13 goals in 15 league games and along with his nine assists, has probably been the best player in the league so far this season.

Now 32, this could be Salah’s final year at Liverpool with the Egyptian still yet to agree a contract extension but if it is to be his final season at the club, it is proving to be one of his best.

Bukayo Saka

Saka is on course to break the record for assists in a single season, having already reached ten in 15 games along with five goals. Arsenal have not kicked on as much as their fans would have hoped but that has nothing to do with Saka, who continues to get better and better.

Virgil Van Dijk

Another Liverpool player who is not being slowed down by age. His majestic defensive performances have been just as big a factor in Liverpool’s title charge as Salah’s goals, helping his team to concede a league fewest 13 goals so far and is still one of, if not the best in his position in the world.

Moises Caicedo

His initial struggles after his big money move from Brighton are long forgotten. Caicedo has been excellent for Chelsea with his incredible work rate and defensive nous, playing at both right-back and holding midfield so far and deserves a mention.
