Skov Olsen is the latest in a long list of technically accomplished Danish players to make the move south to the German Bundesliga. Although in his case he is travelling 600 kilometres east from Club Brugge to join Wolfsburg, having dazzled in the Belgian league - recording over ten goal involvements in each of the past four seasons.

In addition to collecting two Belgian titles, the tricky winger has made 11 UEFA Champions League appearances for Brugge. He provided an assist in a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in his first game in the competition in September 2022 - before scoring in a 4-0 win in Porto in his second.

Skov Olsen had previously made 70 Serie A outings for Bologna between 2019 and 2022. He was snapped up by the Italian side after an astonishing 22 goals in his breakthrough Danish Super League season in 2018/19 - for Nordsjælland, whose youth ranks he developed at.

With 37 international caps for Denmark, he is already a veteran of three major tournaments - UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.

Plays a bit like: Jacob Bruun Larsen

While the comparison is an easy one to make due to their common nationality, the new Wolfsburg right winger and the VfB Stuttgart's attacker share sharp pace and strong technique. Skov Olsen has converted his skill more readily into goals and assists thus far in his career, and gained greater playing time for the Danish national team. On a good day, Skov Olsen's trickery and ability to beat defenders can match even the likes of Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz.

What they're saying

“I’m an attacking player. I want to try to help my team to win, score some goals and set my team-mates up. I like to go forward, use my speed, create chances and shoot, especially with my left foot.” - Skov Olsen after signing for Wolfsburg“We’re delighted to have signed Skov Olsen, a player who is dynamic, a strong dribbler and extremely dangerous in front of goal. He has very good technique and, with his pace and strong left foot, will be a valuable addition to our attacking department. We’re sure we can offer him the perfect conditions at VfL Wolfsburg to continue his development and make the most of his abilities.” - Sebastian Schindzielorz, Wolfsburg sporting director

"He is a player that can make things happen for us. We as a nation don't have many players that can do things on their own, take players on, but he's certainly one of them." - Denmark assistant coach Morten Wieghorst ahead of Euro 2024
