The Weston Homes Stadium played host to a moment that pretty much everyone knew was going to come at some point this season: Birmingham being promoted. In front of just under 4,000 travelling supporters, Blues beat their Vertu Motors Trophy final opponents 2-1 to confirm that their stint in League One would only last one season.

Birmingham have blown the competition out of the water in nearly every metric. Points, spending, attendance; they've just been levels above the rest, unsurprisingly.

Chris Davies reveals what he said to Birmingham players in post-promotion huddle

Davies has guided City to a likely title-winning season in his first campaign as a manager, and he has done it with aplomb. His side have been faced with adversity throughout this term, largely due to injuries. He helped them to navigate any choppy times, but he sees those who have worked with him as the real heroes.

That is what he told his players and colleagues in their mid-celebration huddle in front of the Birmingham faithful, as well as a warning to some of them to not get too carried away with the partying as they have a trip to Wembley on Sunday to face the Posh.

After the singing and dancing had calmed down a little bit, he told the media, via Birmingham Live: "I think a few of them have had a few swigs of champagne already actually but we have got another game coming up!

"We have got to be careful but they should enjoy it. I said to them in the huddle there, every staff member and every player has turned this club around from where it was.

"It’s a special night," continued Davies. "It means the world. To see the fans celebrate really is something special.

"I’ve said previously that the club has suffered a lot, especially in the last few years, and it’s about creating memories, bringing them some joy, and making them proud of their club. I think we’ve done that this season."

Birmingham can't take their foot off the gas just yet

The club's ultimate goal for this season has been achieved. All that mattered this season was making sure they made a swift return to the second tier. Now they are there and have ticked that off the list, that doesn't mean there aren't more things to aim for.

A record point-scoring season in League One is still up for grabs - they only need nine points from six games in order to break the record of 103 points currently held by fellow midlanders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There's also the aforementioned chance to lift some silverware at Wembley. No matter the size of the competition, getting to do that is always a special moment for the players and fans who get to witness it, and they will be full of confidence about their chances given their results against Peterborough this season.
