Despite Kelman's efforts, including two goals in the semi-finals against Stockport County, Orient could not seal promotion, going on to lose 1-0 against Charlton under the Wembley arch.

Now, as the striker returns to Queens Park Rangers, he took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with Orient fans.

Kelman pens heartfelt goodbye after play-off heartbreak

Following the final, Kelman's message on social media read:

"Leyton Orient, thank you for everything. A special club with special people. An unbelievable journey this season and one I won't forget. Once an 🅾️ always an 🅾️ ❤️”

The 23-year-old's connection to the club is undeniable. Kelman first joined Orient during their 2022/23 League-Two title-winning campaign and returned on loan this season for a standout year in League One.

Across all competitions this season, Kelman scored 27 goals and added six assists in 60 appearances, finishing as the League One top scorer and arguably the most important player in Richie Wellens' squad.

What comes next for Charlie Kelman as he returns to QPR

Kelman returns to QPR full of confidence and with his reputation dramatically enhanced. After two underwhelming spells in the Championship, this season has been a breakthrough moment, and one that has turned heads not just at Loftus Road but potentially across the EFL.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World recently, former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes QPR must now give Kelman the chance to lead the line.

"He's played in a side that would probably be very similar to the way QPR would set up, and I think that him going out on loan will give him confidence. They have to bring him back and keep hold of him, there's no doubt about that."

QPR's managerial situation, however, still remains uncertain following Marti Cifuentes' departure. The current instability leaves questions about future plans as of now, but it is clear that he has done all he can to earn a fresh start at Loftus Road.

Charlie Kelman's legacy secured at Orient

While his time at Brisbane Road appears over, Kelman's legacy at Leyton Orient is firmly cemented.

He departs as a fan favourite, top goalscorer, and a player whose contributions nearly changed the club's trajectory. Though a return seems unlikely, the bond he forged with the club and its supporters over multiple spells will endure.

Stepping away from East London to move back to the West, Kelman has shown that he is ready for the next level. Whether QPR choose to put their faith in him next term remains to be seen.
