Bilic wasn't short of compliments for Corberan when the former was quizzed about Albion's current boss.

Former West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic has expressed his admiration for current Baggies boss Carlos Corberan.

Speaking to Birmingham Live, Bilic also revealed that he believes Albion may have a good chance of going up this season, having had to compete with very strong teams like Leicester City last season.

The Baggies have richly benefitted from having Corberan at the helm, with the Spanish manager coming in after the dismissal of Steve Bruce.

At that point during the early stages of the 2022/23 campaign, Albion were in the relegation mix and needed someone to lift them into a more respectable position.

Corberan was able to do this, before guiding his team to a top-six finish at the end of last season.

They narrowly missed out on a place in the play-off final to Southampton in the end, but Albion had enjoyed a fairly decent campaign and would have been keen to build on that when they returned for pre-season.

Clubs can often experience a hangover after losing a play-off game, but West Brom started extremely strongly and won five of their opening six league games of this season, drawing the other one.

Unfortunately for them, they have gone winless in their last six Championship games, drawing their previous four matches.

Some of these games were winnable and Corberan will be frustrated because of that, but the Midlands side remain in the promotion mix at this stage and will be looking to get some more wins on the board as quickly as possible.

Albion have definitely improved since Corberan came in - and his work has allowed him to attract interest from Russell Martin's Saints - but the Baggies have been able to retain him up to this point.

Slaven Bilic delivers Carlos Corberan verdict amid West Brom success

Bilic, who previously won promotion to the Premier League with Albion, is full of praise for the Baggies' current boss and believes he may have a good chance of securing a place in the top flight at the end of this term.

He told Birmingham Live: "I like him [Carlos]. I met him when I was at Watford. We spoke briefly there. He's very interesting, very energetic, I really like him.

"Last season, Southampton were a good team, but this season is open. Normally the relegated clubs, they keep their players and they are main contenders and favourites.

"This season, the clubs relegated...Luton, I respect what they did last season was great, but you wouldn't say straight away they'll be a team who go straight up. There is a chance for other clubs, more so than when Leicester, Leeds, Southampton go down.

"I would like to maybe see a game [at The Hawthorns], but normally I don't and if I do, it's normally with a low profile. Many times you go back to your ex-clubs and it's 'why's he here?' It can be misconstrued.

"I follow them, I follow every club I have managed. I'm a football man. West Brom and West Ham mean a bit more than others, because of the bond, not only the success but it's the whole package."

West Brom are lucky to have Carlos Corberan

Albion made a brilliant decision to appoint Corberan.

They may remain in the second tier at this stage, but their decision to appoint him has definitely paid off.

Now they have new owners at the helm, that should give the Baggies the opportunity to go on and push for promotion now, with off-field uncertainty ending.

The second-tier side are lucky to have Corberan, who has dealt with off-field uncertainty very well and has a huge amount of potential.
