Wesley, Flamengo’s dynamic right back, has become a focal point in Italian media headlines after a recent social media post sparked speculation about his future, according to Lance citing coverage by Corriere dello Sport. In the post, Wesley is pictured with his family, but it was the caption that drew the most attention—specifically, two heart emojis in yellow and red, which are not-so-coincidentally the colours of Roma.

Corriere dello Sport interpreted the color choice as a subtle hint at Wesley's interest in a move to the Italian capital, going as far as to suggest, “He didn’t say it, but it’s as if he had.” This gesture has played into ongoing rumors linking the 21-year-old Brazilian to Roma, whose pursuit of the defender has become one of the most talked-about stories of the current transfer window.

Negotiations between Flamengo and Roma have been moving forward, though not without some back-and-forth. Roma initially tabled an offer worth €22 million including add-ons, a proposal Flamengo’s board deemed insufficient. According to Lance and Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma have since increased their official bid to €25 million—the sum Flamengo reportedly have in mind as their target price.

Personal terms between Wesley and Roma are understood to be settled, covering contract length and salary. The defender has reportedly drawn interest from other European clubs before, with Barcelona also rumored as a past suitor. Prior attempts by Atalanta to sign him during Gian Piero Gasperini’s tenure stalled, with Flamengo valuing the player highly even then—a deal could have reached around R$120 million.

Internally, Flamengo’s management and head coach Filipe Luís have not been caught off guard by European interest in Wesley, fully aware that bids would arrive given his impact this season. The club’s willingness to negotiate, while holding firm on valuation, signals their pragmatic approach as top European teams circle.

With a move to Roma now appearing closer than ever, Italian media and fans are watching closely for official confirmation. Wesley’s social media nod to Roma’s colours has only heightened anticipation around his next step, potentially marking the end of a notable chapter at Flamengo and the start of his career in Italy.
