With Jacob Neestrup (FC Copenhagen) no longer in contention to become the next RB Leipzig head coach, a clear frontrunner has now emerged.
According to Kicker, negotiations with Ole Werner are “expected to be intensified and finalized” in the coming days.
Werner, who recently parted ways with Werder Bremen, is reportedly open to taking the job at the Red Bull Arena.
Sky also reports that Werner is now the leading candidate for the job. Talks are said to be well advanced, although a few contractual details still need to be resolved.
One key issue is Werner’s existing contract. The 37-year-old remains tied to Bremen until 2026, which means Leipzig will either need to pay a compensation fee or Werner and Werder must come to a mutual agreement to terminate the deal.
