SV Werder Bremen’s women’s side will become the first German women’s team to visit Vietnam. The DFB-Pokal finalists will travel to the country following the end of the season from 13th to 18th May 2025, writing more club history as well as marking a first for the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga.
The timing of the trip was chosen very deliberately: this year, Germany and Vietnam are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The German Embassy is therefore particularly looking forward to Werder Bremen’s visit, which represents a special highlight among the year-long celebrations.

The trip is all about internationalisation: Vietnam is a strategic target market within SV Werder Bremen’s internationalisation strategy. The German Business Association and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam are acting as partners in this endeavour. The aim of the trip is to further increase awareness of the Werder Bremen brand in Southeast Asia, while also promoting women’s football in the region. In addition, it offers the team and the entire club the opportunity to gain new perspectives.
The focus will be on cultural exchange and strengthening the relationships built in Vietnam, which have recently been advanced through several delegation visits. Moreover, the trip represents a particularly important part of the anniversary programme – alongside musical acts and a career truck touring the country – as it speaks to the interests of the main target group of the celebrations: young people.

Klaus Filbry, Werder’s CEO, and Clemens Fritz, managing director for sport and responsible for women’s football at the club, will be joining the trip. “With this journey, our women’s side are sending a strong signal for international women’s football,” said Fritz. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to build cultural bridges, use football as a unifying force and at the same time strengthen Werder Bremen’s international visibility. We’re especially pleased to be the first German club to take this step. The Werder women’s side are the perfect ambassadors for this and represent the values of our club in an authentic way out in the world.”
In recent years, SV Werder Bremen have repeatedly carried out international activities – including pre-season training camps and friendly matches for the men’s team in countries such as China and, more recently, South Africa. With the women’s side’s trip to Vietnam, the club is now taking an important step in international women's football as well, living up to its status as a role model. On site, the team will visit children’s facilities, continuing the club’s established activities in Vietnam. For more than two years, SVW has been very active in the local community: in addition to training sessions for children and youth, and coaching education, the Green-Whites support social projects that focus primarily on education and environmental sustainability.
