Bild reports that Hoffenheim could already be preparing to sack Christian Ilzer if things do not go their way against Werder Bremen.

Since taking over, Ilzer has only won two games in the league, against RB Leipzig (his first in charge) and Holstein Kiel. On top of this, they are already out of the DFB Pokal and Europa League. The game against Union Berlin at the weekend saw them lose, rather embarrassingly, 4-0.

On the loss, Ilzer said:

“This will definitely not be a fun week of training. We have a brutal job to do. I know my role in this construct. There are no more excuses, everyone is needed.”

If things do not improve against Bremen next Sunday, Ilzer could be out of a job. Ilzer’s job was already in doubt before Hoffenheim faced Kiel. He is still receiving the backing of the club as sporting director Andreas Schicker worked with Ilzer at Sturm Graz. On whether the Austrian will still be in charge, Schicker said:

“I am convinced that we are on the right track with Christian. “(He will) definitely be on the bench.”

However, it may not be that easy any more, as the players continue to show their disapproval of not only the coach but the club. After Andrej Kramaric’s interview after their 5-0 loss to Bayern Munich, Forward Marius Bulter said:

“The way we performed today, we won’t win a game and we’ll be relegated. In the end, we gave up. That was embarrassing”

While midfielder Dennis Geiger also criticised the club’s spending and lack of results:

“We’re spending 90 million. How many are we in? Fourth from last. That can’t be right, of course. I’m at a loss for words, it’s really disappointing.”

Hoffenheim currently sit in 15th in the Bundesliga and are only four points clear of the relegation zone.
