Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has claimed that he and his teammates were far better than Brighton and Hove Albion and as such, did not deserve to lose at the Amex.

United suffered a 2-1 loss, with a late headed finish from Joao Pedro denying the Reds a share of the spoils.

The game was largely even, but United let themselves down with some poor bits of defending that Brighton fully capitalised on.

The result left Erik ten Hag’s men in 12th position in the Premier League standings, with just the three points gained from their opening win of the campaign against Fulham

After the final whistle, Onana spoke to club media and had his say on the game vs. the Seagulls.

The goalkeeper said, “We came here to win, unfortunately we didn’t win.”

“We had a great game, I think we were better than them, we had more chances, we had more possession, we had more control of the game.”

“Unfortunately, they disallowed us a goal, but that’s part of football, that’s part of life, we have to move on.”

Onana added that United must now show their mentality by recovering from the setback suffered and embarking on a winning run.

“Of course, we’re going to talk with each other, we’re going to sit and analyse the videos and what went wrong, and from there, we will move.”

The 28-year-old added, “Big games are coming, big clubs, so the expectation is here, it will be very high. It’s [mentality] the key thing now, especially when you are playing for such a big club, and not only me, we have so many players who have that positive mentality and it is really helpful for the club and for the team.”

“We move on, we are used to this, so no problem, we have to get ready again for the games that are coming.”

Up next for United is a home fixture against bitter rivals Liverpool.
