Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed the club’s summer transfer strategy ahead of the FA Cup fifth round tie against Fulham on Sunday.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Premier League. They played the entire second half with 10 men after Patrick Dorgu’s red card.

Amorim will be eyeing a better performance against the Cottagers as the Red Devils aim to continue their defence of the FA Cup crown.

Speaking in his pre-match presser, the Portuguese was presented with plenty of questions. One of those was focused on the club’s recruitment plans this summer.

Amorim acknowledged that the Red Devils are working on many things and added there will be some outgoings to compensate for new summer arrivals.

He told Manutd.com: “We need to make some deals to make some deals. We know the situation. We are changing a lot of things in our squad and the academy. We are working on a lot of things. We are preparing the next season, for sure.”

United are in a tight financial position, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have focused on job redundancies to prevent the club from going bust.

The Red Devils’ summer spending could also depend on high-profile exits even if they were to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

The club were open to parting ways with Alejandro Garnacho for the right price earlier this year, and we won’t be surprised if the Argentine moves on this summer.

Napoli were £10 million short of the £60m valuation. United could be prepared to negotiate as they look to recruit players more suited for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Garnacho’s exit would provide the club with pure profit to balance the books. Marcus Rashford could also depart. Aston Villa have the option of signing him for £40m after his loan stint.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo’s future could be another topic of speculation this summer.

The midfielder was tipped to sign a new long-term deal earlier this campaign, but contract talks have not progressed with United yet to meet the Englishman’s demands.

Premier League rivals Chelsea are monitoring proceedings. If United were to miss out on Europe next term, they could explore the possibility of selling Mainoo too.
