Of the six Manchester United players out of contract in the summer of 2025, the club will likely look to offload at least two of them in January.
It remains to be seen if Jonny Evans, 36, and Tom Heaton, 38, will continue their playing careers when their terms expire next June or whether they’ll decide to hang up their boots – and gloves – entirely.
You’d expect that Harry Maguire will have his one-year option exercised by the board while Amad Diallo, whose contract contains the same clause, is locked in talks over an extension to keep him tied to Old Trafford long-term.
That leaves ageing duo Christian Eriksen, 32, and Victor Lindelof, 30. The former has played only 68 minutes since Ruben Amorim took the reins, having started the new boss’ first game against Ipswich Town last month. When he was replaced in the closing stages of the contest, he had no idea it’d be his last taste of action for almost three weeks.

As for the ‘fantastic’ Swede, he has been limited to only seven appearances this campaign due to injury setbacks and, as a result, has yet to feature under Amorim.
It remains to be seen how prominent of a role he’ll play now that he’s resumed full training with the squad, though the recent return of Leny Yoro coupled with the newly implemented back-three system means Lindelof will rank further in the pecking order than he previously did.
January provides United with their last opportunity to recuperate any fee from the defender’s potential exit, with them presumably resigned to losing him for nothing at the end of the term.
However, one Serie A club has been urged to materialise their interest to resolve their defensive woes mid-season. A Juventus insider told CalcioMercato: “We need defenders, and if Thiago Motta thinks Lindelof could be useful to his team, we must add him to our squad next month to improve it.”
