The coach of a Champions League side has credited learning from Liverpool for his team’s bright start in the competition.

Arne Slot led his men to a 3-1 win away at AC Milan to kick off their Champions League push, but the Reds’ impact was also felt in another fixture.

The Austrians hit a brick wall in the Czech Republic as Sparta Prague ran out convincing 3-0 winners and the club’s coach Lars Friis feels much of it came from learning from Liverpool.

Sparta Prague played Liverpool in the Europa League last season and were thrashed, losing 11-2 on aggregate.

“We learned a lesson last season when we played against Liverpool”, Friis was quoted as saying by Bold.

“We want to play forward and attack as we do in the domestic tournament, but if we play against the best teams in the world, we must not be naïve.”

Sparta Prague have not been drawn against Liverpool in the Champions League league stage, but they do have a daunting trip to Manchester City on the agenda in October.

Lijnders, who had been floated as a possible successor to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, must take his Red Bull Salzburg side to Real Madrid in January.
