Brighton & Hove Albion fell to their second defeat of the season on Friday evening as they went down 5-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Seagulls have been much-improved defensively this term but they were easily beaten by an Arsenal side that have regained some form.

When speaking to the media after the match, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Vidošić expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, especially in the first half. However, he acknowledged that top teams like Arsenal will punish errors like those that he felt his side made.

“We were sort of disappointed with our performance,” Vidošić said. “We would have loved to have played better, especially in the first half. I thought at times, we were maybe our own worst enemies. We just got things a little bit wrong that we spoke about, that we practiced and two of the goals were definitely on those aspects.

“Top teams [like Arsenal] will punish you with the quality that they possess. One of the goals was a beautiful goal, I don’t think anyone in the world is saving that, where it’s in the top corner and then we have a similar one in the second half that hits the crossbar, almost from a similar shot.

“It was a tough night and we’re definitely disappointed. I’ll reflect, I’ll have a look and see what we can learn, myself and the players.”

Continuing on, Vidošić spoke about maintaining a positive perspective despite the loss. He emphasised the team’s desire to test themselves against a top opposition rather than sitting back.

He said “I think there have still been a lot of positives in terms of our journey. In a couple of weeks, we’ve achieved [the right] to be coming into gameweek seven above Arsenal in the table. We wanted to come, play, try and not just sit off and hope that we could get something on the counter-attack.

“We wanted to test ourselves and we fell short tonight, but we’ll pick ourselves up very quickly and be ready to go next week at the Amex.”

Vidošić acknowledged the enormity of the challenge of facing Arsenal but maintained the fact that there are many positives to take from his side’s overall start to the season.

He stated “I can’t fault the girls, it’s not easy to come to the Emirates to play a team that’s at the moment, very desperate. They want to climb back up the table, their goal every year is to win the WSL. They want to challenge right at the top and they’ve been right at the top for a long time. For us, we wanted to come here, test ourselves, see where we are.

“Tonight we fell short, but I think over the course of where we’ve come, there are still a lot of positives.”

Brighton & Hove Albion are back in action next weekend when they play host to West Ham United at the Amex Stadium.
