‘We are talking’… Barcelona captain does not give any clues about his renewal | OneFootball

FC Barcelona returned to footballing action last night as they faced UD Barbastro in their first Copa del Rey tie of the season. The Blaugranes got a 4-0 win in this game, which ensures their qualification to the Round of 16 of the competition.

Another aspect that made this game memorable was Ronald Araújo’s return to the pitch. The Uruguayan defender made his season debut only last night, as he had been suffering from a serious injury that he sustained while playing for Uruguay in the 2024 Copa America.

Although he had been a part of the squad for the last two games against Leganes and Atletico Madrid, he did not get his opportunity to step on the pitch till last night’s game.

The Barcelona captain also talked to the media after this match. As already reported, he discussed the situation surrounding Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor’s registration with La Liga quite honestly in this media talk.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, another subject that he was asked to address in this media talk was of his renewal with FC Barcelona. However, the defender was not giving away too much with his comments as he said:

“We are talking with the club about my renewal, but I am focused on getting back to playing and gaining minutes on the pitch.”

Araujo was not giving any guarantees about his continuity at the Catalan club: “Will I stay 100% at Barça? We are talking with the club.”

These comments will not really help put doubts about his continuity at Barcelona to bed, but the fans will be hoping that the two parties can arrive at an agreement soon so there is more certainty about Araújo’s future at the Blaugrana club.
