Manchester United legend Patrice Evra had some fun at the expense of Wayne Rooney and his managerial woes.
The two men played side-by-side under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, winning a host of trophies together, including the 2007/08 Champions League title.
After hanging up their boots, they went on different paths. The Frenchman capitalised on his colorful personality and beloved antics to become a TV and internet personality, one capable of drawing large audiences with his playful acts.
On the other hand, the former England international went for a more conventional yet less pleasant path, becoming a football manager.
Sadly for the 39-year-old, his first years as a head coach have yielded very little success. On the contrary, he has already been sacked on several occasions, most recently from Plymouth Argyle who showed him the door on New Year’s Eve.

Rooney had also tried his luck at Birmingham City in the previous campaign, but suffered a similar fate. The legendary striker only lasted three months at the club’s helm before being sacked in January 2024. He was replaced by Tony Mowbray who also couldn’t prevent the Blues from being relegated from the Championship to League One.
Nevertheless, Evra suggested his old teammate was the main culprit behind the club’s demotion in an unfiltered rant during his appearance on ‘Men in Europe’.
“That’s why they [Birmingham] get relegated. I said ‘No please stop being a manager, it’s not for you,'” declared Evra while leaving everyone around him in stitches, including his former Man Utd teammate Park Ji-sung.
“And he keeps going somewhere and gets sacked again… and when he leaves, they win. He’s my friend, my brother, but I need to tell the truth.”
Nowadays, Rooney is working as a TV pundit, recently causing a stir by describing Ruben Amorim as ‘naive’ after the latter declared his intention to win the Premier League with Man Utd at some stage, which prompted a snarky reply from the manager.
