Paris Saint-Germain communicated to the media in February that Kylian Mbappe would be leaving the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, and three days after PSG were knocked out of the Champions League, Mbappe has made it public.

The 25-year-old announced his exit from his hometown club in a four-minute long video addressing the PSG fans, and thanking them for their support. He also thanked each and every one of his managers and sporting directors over the past seven years too.

Over the course of his seven year spell, following a €180m move from Monaco, Mbappe has racked up 306 appearances, during which he has 255 goals and 108 assists. It works out as 1.19 goal contributions per game, and he will have four more games to add to that total, against Toulouse in his final match at the Parc des Princes this Sunday, before away trips to Nice and Metz to close out the Ligue 1 season. His final match for PSG will be the Coupe de France final against Lyon in the last weekend of May. Mbappe has won 13 trophies at PSG, consisting of six Ligue 1 titles, three French Supercups, three Coupes de France and two League Cups.

Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid in June, although it is not clear when the deal will be announced. It is expected to be before he joins the France camp for the Euros, but Real Madrid’s progress to the Champions League final leaves a short gap for that to happen in. The Real Madrid squad will not want any distractions in the lead up to the final, but neither will they want Mbappe to overshadow the celebrations if they win it.
