Fans of the Wales women’s team have been left frustrated ahead of Euro 2025 this summer, with Adidas not allowing personalisation on the new kits.

The new mint-green Wales away kit was revealed in February and while there was excitement surrounding the limited edition Adidas jersey, the excitement quickly turned into anger when fans and players alike realised there was no personalisation allowed.

With this summer’s Euros being the first major tournament that Wales women have ever qualified for, the anger is certainly justified as the nation looks to get behind its players.

One player from the current Wales squad, who wished to remain anonymous, spoke about her frustration over the situation: “It’s extremely disappointing that, as we prepare for the Euros, as we make history, we still can’t get access to names on the back of our shirts.

“We’ve said for years, visibility is key and it is impossible for us to be in this history-making moment and actively choose against visibility.”

Although this is the first kit problem with the Welsh team, it certainly isn’t the first time that an international women’s team has been left with problems just before a tournament.

At the Women’s World Cup in 2023, the now retired Lioness and Euro 2022 winner Mary Earps didn’t even have a kit available to buy, with Nike receiving complaints from all over the country in a quite embarrassing situation.

Nike eventually addressed the issue once the tournament finished, with over 150,000 fans signing a petition to get the jersey in stock. Earps kits sold out twice in a matter of minutes once they were released.

FAW looking to atone for Wales Adidas kit issues

FAW have made it clear that the kit issues have nothing to do with them and they are looking to rectify the problem before Euro 2025 kicks off in July.

A statement from FAW said: “The Football Association of Wales want every fan to have the opportunity to personalise their Cymru shirt with the name and number that they desire. The FAW is in regular dialogue with Adidas and JD to find a resolution for personalisation on the WEC 2025 away shirt ahead of Euro 2025 this summer.”

Adidas had their own say on the situation, saying: “A selection of our Uefa Women’s Euro 2025 jerseys are currently available for customisation on our website, and the full range can be customised in store, where stock is available. We are always exploring ways to expand our options and better meet the needs of fans who want to show support for their teams.”

With the Euros just under three weeks away from getting started, Adidas will be keen to avoid the same levels of outrage that Nike suffered from in 2023.
