Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has admitted that one Manchester City chant even had him singing along at the Etihad Stadium.
The Brazilian winger has encountered Pep Guardiola’s side on numerous occasions over the last few seasons, with Manchester City and Real Madrid having formed somewhat of a rivalry on the European stage.
Since a last-16 first-leg clash back in 2020, Vinicius Junior has come up against Manchester City a total of nine times, winning four outings, drawing twice, and ending up on the losing side on three occasions.
The exciting wide winger has not experienced defeat to City since the UEFA Champions League semi-final second-leg at the Etihad Stadium in 2023, when a remarkable showing from the hosts resulted in a 4-0 win for Guardiola’s eventual European champions on the night.
And one player who was on red hot form that night was Kevin De Bruyne, who managed to provide two assists against Real Madrid to bag his side a place in the showpiece final against Inter in Istanbul.
Now, speaking during as part of a scene within the brand new personal Netflix documentary ‘Baila, Vini’, Brazilian international Vinicius Junior glowed when discussing Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium atmosphere, and specifically one chant from home fans.
“I’ve never seen anything like it, when the [Manchester City] fans sing, ‘Oh Kevin De Bruyne!’ It’s a unique atmosphere. Even I started singing along,” the 24-year-old admitted.
Since his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, De Bruyne has faced off against Real Madrid a total of 10 times, scoring four goals and providing a further four assists during that time, ending up on the winning side in four contests.
However, this will be the final time that De Bruyne will come up against Real Madrid for Manchester City as he prepares to bid farewell to the Etihad Stadium this summer following 10 years at the club.
And the two sides could go head-to-head in the transfer market, this time concerning Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz – whom those within the Etihad Stadium deem as the ideal replacement to their legendary Belgian creator.
