Following their Champions League elimination on Wednesday, all associated with Bayern Munich prioritised taking the league title as the most important task facing the team. Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany – speaking at Friday’s press conference – expressed frustration that he and his team had to wait until Sunday to get back to work on this goal.
Easter weekend leaves German football without a league Friday night curtain-raiser. Bayern will not get a chance to wash the taste of defeat out of their mouths until league fixture against Heidenheim in two days time. Victory against Frank Schmidt’s struggling club isn’t guaranteed either. Bayern let a 2-0 half-time lead slip and stumbled to defeat in their last trip to Heidenheim in April 2024.
“It’s better to play again as soon as possible,” Kompany remarked on Friday. “Pressure is constant at FC Bayern Munich. I’m motivated and hungry. I’m not someone who allows himself to get down.
“I saw the game,” Kompany said of Heidenheim’s 3-2 victory over Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern a little over a year ago. “They are brave, press forward well and take risks. Heidenheim is a team that fights – and we are also up for a fight.“
