The second Derby Della Madonnina of the season sees AC Milan face Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana, and Christian Vieri has stated that he believes the Nerazzurri are favourites for the game.
As has been the case with the two sides in recent years, the two city rivals got the Supercoppa final in very different ways. Inter eased past Atalanta, who have been the story of Serie A so far this season, whilst Milan struggled to overcome a Juventus side who have been often doubted.
For large parts of the game, it seemed like the Bianconeri would be the ones to progress to the final, but a change in the system saw Sergio Conceicao’s side win their first game under the new coach at the first chance to do so.
Speaking to Corriere della Sera, Vieri offered his view on the fixture and Milan News have relayed his words and predictions.
“A trophy is now very important and also quite rich. The formula is winning, congratulations to the League, a great job. With the Milanese derby in the final, we export a lot of prestige to every part of the world. And in the semifinals, there were also Atalanta and Juve.
“What ending will we see? On the paper you say Inter are favourites, but the recent precedent in the league teaches that some games have no prediction. The derby puts on the plate motivations and energies that sometimes go beyond the objective value of the teams.
The comeback of Milan against Juve?
“Until the 70th minute, in fact, there was hardly a game, but the one-two of Milan, regardless of how it matured, did not surprise me much, because in the squad there are important qualities. Among many problems and changes, then, the most important fact for Conceiçao emerges: Milan is alive.
“Sergio is a great friend, a special man, funny. And as a technician, career speaks. His Porto was an aggressive team. Sergio wants speed, rhythm, intensity and attachment to the cause. From his boys, he demands the best on the field, zero discounts to those who do not give everything.”
