Well, wouldn’t you just know it.
The inevitable has happened – Estevao Willian has scored against his future club, levelling this Club World Cup quarter final at 1-1 after a moment of pure drama.
The Stamford Bridge bound winger found some space behind Marc Cucurella and was able to attack Levi Colwill. The Chelsea centre back ushered him wide and looked to have done enough to shut down the chance.
But without looking up, Estevao struck the ball directly at goal as he reached the byline. His hard, high effort caught out Robert Sanchez, clipping the underside of the bar as it flew in from a narrow angle. The stadium’s many Palmeiras fans erupted.
This game was really comfortable at times for us, and we were hoping to see us kill it in the second half. Instead, it’s been totally blown open, and we can see the momentum really swinging now. Enzo Maresca needs to make changes and sort the side out before things get out of hand.

Robert Sanchez caught off his line.
As much as we’d love to give all the credit to Estevao, this is just as much a Robert Sanchez howler as a great piece of play from the Brazilian.
Just look at the reaction of Colwill, who clearly felt he was safe having pushed the dangerman wide. He put his hands to his head in shock after turning to see the effort had caught out his keeper. The Spaniard hopped off his line, lost his near post, and was beaten when he should have been safe.
Even the slow mo replays of Enzo Maresca showed a man reacting like he’d been let down again by a player he’s defended so many times.
