Vasco reach agreement with centre-back and seal the deal

Vasco reached an agreement with Galatasaray and finalized, this Wednesday, the signing of defender Carlos Cuesta. The Colombian arrives on an eighteen-month loan, with an option to buy, and will sign a contract until the end of 2026.

At 26 years old, Cuesta emerges as the main option to strengthen the right side of the defense, a gap that coach Fernando Diniz had been looking to fill. The defender joins Thiago Mendes, Andrés Gómez, Robert Renan, and Matheus França, already announced by the club in this transfer window.

Carlos Cuesta stood out in the Colombian national team in the last Copa América and had a successful stint at Genk, Belgium, where he played for six seasons. However, at Galatasaray, the defender faced adaptation difficulties and medical issues, playing only eight matches since last season.

Internally, Vasco believes that Cuesta combines speed, strength, and quality in ball distribution, characteristics that make him the ideal target to reinforce the defense. President Pedrinho closely followed the player's performances in the Copa América and was enthusiastic about the possibility of having him in the squad.

The Colombian defender was available again after Spartak Moscow had previously entered negotiations, offering higher values but failing to close the deal. Now, with Vasco's renewed interest, Cuesta is set to become the club's fifth signing in this window, consolidating the defense for the remainder of the season.
