According to a report from Foot Mercato, Valentin Rongier (30) is being pushed towards an exit by Olympique de Marseille, with the player entering the final year of his contract and negotiations over an extension having stalled.
L’Équipe has previously noted that the midfielder wants to see his financial package increase, so that he is compensated at a similar level to Geoffrey Kondogbia and Ismaël Bennacer (who has since returned to his parent club, AC Milan), a demand that Marseille are unwilling to meet.
Foot Mercato writes that Rongier’s representatives, for several weeks, have been searching for an exit from a club that he has represented since 2019, following a move from his formative team, FC Nantes.
Sunderland AFC, Stade Rennais, and Como 1907 were all linked with Marseille’s longest-serving squad member and former captain. However, all three appear to have moved on from the midfielder, with Marseille’s €10m asking price considered steep by the Premier League side (albeit this evaluation could fall as the window draws on).
Foot Mercato writes that interest remains high in Rongier and that three more clubs have contacted the player’s entourage to enquire about his financial demands.
