Hjulmand would be a perfect acquisition, having previously played under Amorim for around 18 months at Sporting CP.

The Dane was named the club’s captain after just one season, and he has been fantastic from the number six position.

Hjulmand has completed 91 percent of his passes in the Primeira Liga this term.

He has made six recoveries per game alongside 1.7 tackles while winning 60 percent of his duels.

The midfielder would add more defensive resolve alongside Manuel Ugarte and make United difficult to beat next term.

If United can sign him for around £50m, it would represent a good piece of business for them.
