Brendan Rodgers was delighted with Celtic’s dominant performance at Pittodrie yesterday and in particular with the two rather special goals that gave Celtic a comfortable win and the first three points on the road this season.

“It was a really good performance. We controlled the game and dominated it,” the Celtic manager told Celtic TV. “We had two outstanding goals and had other opportunities to make it even more comfortable, and their keeper also made some really good saves.

“Then, when we had to defend, we were really strong – our two centre-halves, and then even Auston coming into the game as well,” Brendan said. “So as a team I thought we were excellent, and then the context of the game – obviously it’s early in the season and playing Aberdeen in the first competitive game after the Scottish Cup and them beating us, we knew there was going to be something in it for them, but we played with a lot of quality and a lot of heart today, and that pleased me.”

The Celtic goals came from Benjamin Nygren – his first for the club – and Reo Hatate who was perhaps settling some personal scores with yesterday’s hosts and did so in the best possible way with a sensation strike to put the match beyond Jimmy Thelin’s side. Both certainly pleased the Celtic manager.

“The two goals were very good,” Brendan said. “For the first one, we arrived up into their half, worked the ball from one side to the other and then Kieran showed that great quality and speed he has to create the space for the cross, and then Benji – that’s why we brought him here. I’m so pleased for him. He’s got off the mark and he did really well.

“For our second goal, we played it through the pressure, attracted them to the ball and played it in behind and then worked it into Reo. It was a brilliant finish and he’s scored a couple of really good goals up here, so that gave us real comfort in the game and we were then able to enjoy the football.”
