One unhappy Chelsea player is reportedly refusing to take a pay-cut in order to leave the club during the January transfer window that is now open.

The latest winter window opened yesterday and all has been quiet so far as I write this. We keep hearing about outgoings being the only real thing to watch at Chelsea this window, with no in-comings really expected unless they sell some other first team players and need to replace them.

Other than that, it is mostly expected to be about outgoings at Chelsea. The two most obvious ones are Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka. Both players are being physically forced out of the club by basically being frozen out completely.

Chukwuemeka has barely played, and I think Chilwell might have played once at the start of the season but has not been seen since other than in training. It is the hard stance that Chelsea and Enzo Maresca are taking on players who are on high wages, who they want off the books.

It’s not as easy as that

Many players wont just drop wages that easily, and Chilwell is earning a decent wage here that he isn’t going to get elsewhere unless he went to Saudi maybe. So he has a decision to make, what is more important? Playing, or wages?

The Sun report Chilwell is unhappy but Chelsea face an uphill battle to move him on this month.

They claim that the left back earns about £190,000 a week and will not take a pay cut just to make it easy for the club to get him out.

The report goes on to say that Chelsea may end up having to hand the former England international a huge severance deal or heavily subsidise a loan to another Premier League club.
