Ian Wright has slammed Enzo Maresca for playing Moises Caicedo at right back in recent games and labelled it “unacceptable.”
Chelsea have two league games and the Conference League final remaining in Maresca’s debut season, with plenty at stake.
Despite a damaging defeat against Newcastle at St James’ Park, the Blues still occupy the fifth and final Champions League place, and know wins against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest would see them return to Europe’s Premier Club competition.
It’s a huge couple of weeks and one that could potentially decide Maresca’s future, even though Joe Cole has warned the Blues against sacking the Italian.
Maresca went with an unchanged team for third game running against the Magpies, but the Blues paid the price for an awful first half performance.
Caicedo started at right back for the third game running, but Chelsea improved when Reece James came on at half time, and the Ecuadorian went back into midfield.

Wright wasn’t impressed with Maresca’s decision to play the 23-year-old there and slammed the Chelsea boss for his team selection.
“It is crazy when you look at who he’s got on the bench and why he’s doing that (playing Caicedo at right-back) you’re going to attack him all the time,” he told The Kelly and Wrighty Show.
“Whatever he’s saying about getting into midfield and controlling it, you’ve got to get control of the game.
“It all comes down to the manager. Unless something has happened with Reece James and Malo Gusto, I don’t know what’s happened.
“That, for me, is unacceptable, he’s making decisions that are very worrying, especially in that particular incident.”
The midfielder has started all 36 of Chelsea’s Premier League games underlying his importance to the side, and Caicedo cleaned up at the recent end of season club awards.
Caicedo has emerged as a shock target for Saudi side Al Nassr, but Chelsea’s stance that he’s not for sale is very clear.

Maresca labelled him one of the best of the midfielders in the world, and he’s certainly been Chelsea’s best player this season, and arguably the best midfielder in the Premier League.
After a slow start last season ,Caicedo is showing why Chelsea paid a British record and it’s scary to think how good he could be next season.
