Women’s Euro 2025 kicks off in less than a month, and here we take a look at some of the most notable records in Euros history.
This summer’s tournament in Switzerland will be the 14th time the competition has been held. It was set up 1984 and originally known as the UEFA European Competition for Representative Women’s Teams.
In 1991, it became the UEFA European Women’s Championship, and it is a tournament that has largely been dominated by Germany over the course of its history.
However, England are the defending champions going into this summer’s tournament. Sarina Wiegman has named her 23-player squad and the Lionesses will be among the favourites to lift the trophy on July 27th.
Below, we take a look at some notable player, team, and attendance records over the course of the Women’s Euros history.
Germany legend Birgit Prinz holds the record for most appearances at the Women’s Euros with 23 across five tournaments from 1995 to 2019.
There are 10 players who have notched up exactly 17 appearances, with only five above that figure.
England’s record appearance holder at the Women’s Euros is Karen Carney, who made 15 outings between 2005 and 2017.
Birgit Prinz also jointly holds the record for most Women’s Euros championships with five. Prinz won the Euros with Germany every year she played in the tournament.
Nadine Angerer also won five championships for Germany between 1997 and 2013.
The top 10 is dominated by German players thanks to their eight trophies in the 13 tournaments that have been played.
Another record for Birgit Prinz as she currently sits joint-top of the standings for goals at the Women’s Euros alongside compatriot Inka Grings.
Prinz scored 10 goals over five tournaments between 1995 and 2009. Grings scored her 10 goals over just two tournaments in 2005 and 2009.
Beth Mead’s six goals at Euro 2022 puts her joint-sixth in the all-time scoring list.
Jodie Taylor, who netted five goals at Euro 2017, is joint-ninth alongside seven other players.

The oldest player to feature at a Women’s Euros is France’s Sandrine Soubeyrand, who was 39 years and 340 days old when she appeared against Denmark in 2022.
At the same tournament, Northern Ireland’s Julie Nelson became the oldest Women’s Euros scorer in history at 37 years and 33 days in their match against Norway.
Ukraine’s Oksana Yakovyshyn became the youngest player in Women’s Euros history at Euro 2009 at the age of 16 years and 156 days during a clash against the Netherlands.
Isabell Herlovsen became the youngest scorer in Women’s Euros history in 2005, netting against France at the age of 16 years and 351 days.
Germany holds the record for most Women’s Euros championships with eight.
The only other nations to win the tournament are Norway with two trophies, and Sweden, the Netherlands, and England who have all won the championship once.
Germany holds a host of records thanks to their success since the competition was first run in 1984.
Germany has made the most finals (9), most finishes in the top-four (10), and most consecutive championships with six between 1995 and 2013.
England holds the record for the most goals at a Women’s Euros, with 22 goals in six games at Euro 2022.
The Lionesses also hold the record for most goals in a group stage at the tournament with 14 in the same tournament, as well as fewest goals conceded in the group stage with zero.
During the group stage, England had massive 8-0 and 5-0 wins over Norway and Northern Ireland respectively. The victory over Norway was the biggest goal margin in Women’s Euros history.
Sarina Wiegman’s side also scored four goals in the semi-final against Sweden.
Six England players scored two goals or more during the tournament. Beth Mead was joint top-scorer alongside Germany’s Alexandra Popp with six, while Alessia Russo netted four times.
Fran Kirby, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone and Ellen White all scored twice.
Unsurprisingly, Germany hold the record for the most goals scored over the course of the Women’s Euros history.
Germany have netted 102 times – 30 more than the next-best nation Sweden who have 72.
England have 62 goals, with nearly a third of their goals in the tournament’s history coming at Euro 2022.
Three games jointly hold the record for the most goals in a single game in Women’s Euros history – two of which include England.
England put eight goals past Norway in the group stage at Euro 2022. However, at Euro 2009, they were on the wrong-end of a 6-2 defeat to Germany in the final.
Meanwhile, Norway were involved in an eight-goal thriller when they beat Italy in 2005.
England’s Euro 2022 final victory over Germany holds the record for the highest attendance in Women’s Euros history.
Seven of the ten highest attendances in Euros history come at the tournament which was held in England in 2022.
Euro 2022 was the highest-attended Euros in history with 574,875 fans across the course of the 31 games. This compares to 240,055 in 31 games in the Netherlands in 2017, and 216,888 across 25 games in Sweden in 2013.
