It is no secret that Manchester City has to let players go this summer to trim the size of Pep Guardiola’s squad. Who could leave the Etihad summer remains up in the air. That picture should reveal itself in the coming weeks. But two players appear to be prime candidates to spend the 25/26 season out on loan. They are young attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri and centre-back Vitor Reis. Both players could benefit from the opportunity to play regular first-team football, so it seems that they could be loaned out by Manchester City next season.
Núria Vilamala has reported on the Que T’hi Jugues podcast that Girona are once again able to loan players from within the City Football Group once again. Furthermore, Vilamala reports that Girona do have an interest in signing Claudio Echeverri on loan for next season. Vilamala further reports that Girona faces competition from other clubs to sign Echeverri on loan for next season. Those clubs aren’t named by Núria Vilamala. Vilamala goes on to report that a deal that will see Vitor Reis join Girona on loan is considered more feasible for the La Liga side.
The possibility that both Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis remain at Manchester City for next season remains very real. But as it stands currently both players would likely be on the periphery of Pep Guardiola’s squad. They would get opportunities to play, but they would likely be limited given which players would be ahead of the pair in the pecking order in Manchester City’s first team. That isn’t a knock on the talent of the duo, it is more a statement based on their lack of experience at the highest level.
But a loan move for both players could be ideal. Depending on which club they were to go to, they should get more opportunities to play first team football. That would be ideal for the development of Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis. It now seems that it is a realistic possibility based on Núria Vilamala’s new report.
Whether or not Vitor Reis or Claudio Echeverri remain at Manchester City for next season is now one of many stories to watch for in the coming weeks. But it does seem that both players could be heading out on loan for the 25/26 season to further their development as players.
