Earlier today, FC Barcelona were handed a huge boost as multiple reliable sources confirmed that Ronald Araujo had decided to stay put at the club after having seriously considered leaving for Juventus this month.
The 25-year-old club captain was said to be angling for an exit until Tuesday but a meeting with sporting director Deco last night has changed things.
Araujo now intends to continue with the Blaugrana and will continue renewal talks with the club as well.
Now, Mundo Deportivo highlights the two factors that convinced Araujo to make a swift U-turn on his future and opt to stay put at Barcelona.
Following Barcelona’s triumph in the Spanish Super Cup, the camaraderie and affection of his teammates played a pivotal role in convincing the Uruguayan to remain with the club at least until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona director Deco was instrumental in persuading the Uruguayan defender to stay, with his efforts proving equally decisive.

Over the past few days, members of the first team intensified their efforts to demonstrate their appreciation for Araujo, viewing him as an irreplaceable leader and a cornerstone of the squad’s success.
The depth of this support was evident during the Spanish Super Cup final. Both Gavi and Robert Lewandowski publicly displayed their solidarity with Araujo.
Lewandowski personally urged him to stay, while Gavi rallied Barcelona fans in Jeddah to show their affection for the defender.
The overwhelming support from his peers has given Araujo the motivation and confidence to continue fighting alongside the team for silverware. The defender now feels reinvigorated and ready to help Barcelona pursue their goals across all competitions.
With Inigo Martinez sidelined due to injury, Araujo is set to reclaim a central role in the defence.
His teammates are counting on his contributions in crucial upcoming fixtures, including the Copa del Rey clash against Real Betis, La Liga matches against Getafe and Valencia, and the Champions League encounters with Benfica and Atalanta.
The team firmly believes that Araujo’s presence will be vital in maintaining their winning streak in 2025.
