FC Barcelona is working on offloading players this summer. For now, two very clear candidates to end up leaving this summer seem to be Hector Fort and Inaki Pena. However, both players have unique situations.

As of right now, the latest update on their respective futures arrives via Mundo Deportivo. The update states that both players are set to meet their respective agents today to discuss their respective futures and figure out what to do.

However, as mentioned before, both cases are different. Hector Fort’s exit seems to be heavily linked to the Under-20 FIFA World Cup. The player wants to play a part in it, and staying in Spain would help him do so without too many complications.

For that reason, he might consider staying at the Catalan club until the tournament. Moreover, considering the number of scouts that would be present during that competition, it could potentially boost his number of suitors as well. Barcelona, for their part, plan to loan him out to ensure playing time, while still believing in his potential.

As for Inaki Pena, his exit seems to be linked to the registration of Joan Garcia. The club is yet to fully accelerate his departure as he is the only goalkeeper that remains registered in La Liga and is also available for selection.

Once Garcia gets registered, however, the entire situation will likely change. There are two main possibilities for Pena, however, and both of them make sense.

The first includes the player leaving on a free transfer, with Barça retaining some percentage of a future sale. On the other hand, the club could renew his contract for one more year to ease their financial burden and then loan him out.

Either way, both of these departures make sense for Barcelona. The club wants to minimise the budget being spent on salaries while also creating space within the squad, and neither Pena nor Fort are likely to get many opportunities next season.
