Paulo Fonseca’s main objective in his first month at Milan will be to fix the defensive phase, a report claims, and this means evaluating some players already in the squad.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) reports that Fonseca is expected in Milan over the weekend and the new campaign will officially begin on Monday with the ‘raduno’ at Milanello, i.e. the first day of preseason.

The Portuguese coach will not be able to count on the entire squad right away, given the players involved in the European Championships and the Copa America. While waiting to evaluate the full team, he will try to resolve one of the obvious problems of last season: the goals conceded.

The resources that the ex-Lille boss will be able to count on at Milanello remain the same as Stefano Pioli had, because at the moment no new additions have been made. The starting point will be Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw, both of whom are wanted by Newcastle.

The performance of both in 2023-24 was below expectations and Pierre Kalulu must also try to return to the levels seen in the Scudetto season after a difficult year with injuries. On the contrary, Matteo Gabbia seems like a very valuable asset.

Also available immediately are captain Davide Calabria plus the other full-backs Alessandro Florenzi and Filippo Terracciano. For the latter two, the first few weeks will be decisive in understanding their fate, while waiting for Theo Hernandez to come back from Germany.
