Paulo Fonseca could be in charge of his last game for AC Milan tonight, taking on Inter in the prestigious Derby della Madonnina. While a win would restore confidence, it might not be enough to keep the manager’s job as a report claims.
Several managers have been linked with Milan since the defeat against Liverpool earlier this week. The feeling, as Tuttosport reports (via MilanNews), is that Fonseca already has reached the end of his adventure with the Rossoneri. As such, even a win tonight might not be even to keep the job.
Instead, Milan would have to win convincingly for the management to change their mind on Fonseca, as a solid performance from a tactical and attitude point of view is needed. As happened with Marco Giampaolo, who beat Genoa in his last game, a win will probably not be enough for the Portuguese manager.
Having said all of this, as the newspaper continues, Fonseca appears willing to go all out on his tactics. Instead of hiding in their own half, Milan will face Inter with an attacking spirit by fielding both Tammy Abraham and Alvaro Morata up front in a 4-4-2 formation.
With Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao on the flanks, the truth is that this will be more like a 4-2-4 formation, not to mention that the full-backs are very attacking-minded too. Fonseca has everything to lose but you wouldn’t be able to guess that based on the formation, so it does seem like more than just a win is needed.
