Former Tottenham forward Troy Parrott believes everyone at the club is disappointed with how the season has gone after an injury ravaged campaign for the north Londoners.
Troy Parrott, who joined Spurs in the summer of 2017, will be looking to make his presence felt against his former club tomorrow as AZ Alkmaar play host to his former side in the Europa League.
“I think it should be an interesting game,” Parrott said. “I think we’re all looking forward to it and seeing what we can do against a good team.”
With the Europa League being his former club’s only viable chance at a trophy this season, Parrott remarked on his team’s chances:”I think it’s really important to do as well as we can. We’ve done really well to get this far and I think we’re all focused on trying to win these next two games to keep progressing in the tournament.”
The Irish international, who has been a mainstay in the AZ starting lineup this season, went on to speak about the importance of recovery: “When you play so many games, it’s really important to try to recover the best you can so you’re ready to go again for the next game. For me it’s about trying to find extra things to benefit that.”
Upon reflection of his time at the north London club, Parrott remarked on the good times with the Lilywhites: “I look back with a smile. It’s a place where I grew up. You could say that [they didn’t see the best of me] but I think it was just the right time for both of us to move on.”
Parrott has scored 17 times in 38 appearances this season, and has been much more prolific than he ever appeared to be in a Spurs shirt. When asked if it would be significant to score against his former club, the 23-year-old said: “I want to score in every game and tomorrow is just another game to try to do that.
“For me it just didn’t happen [at Spurs]. I’m OK with that. I’m really enjoying myself here, I love life over here.”
Spurs have struggled this season, with injuries blighting the Lilywhites’ campaign so far. When asked about their issues, Parrott remarked; “I’m sure it’s disappointing for everyone there. When I was there, the focus was always the top four and being at the top of the table. They’re not doing as well as they want to. It seems like a difficult time for them.”
The Irishman also revealed that he never had a conversation with Ange Postecoglou regarding his future; “No, I never had a conversation. For me, I was ready to move on and I think the club were also ready to move on.”
“It’s going to be an interesting game. I feel like we’re in a better position now than we were when we played the first time. We’ll have to wait until after the game tomorrow to see what happens.”
Parrott and his teammates will be looking to get revenge over Spurs after their 1-0 loss to Postecoglou’s men in the league phase.
