Newcastle line up Elanga alternatives

Newcastle United have identified two other names if they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of Anthony Elanga.

The Magpies have made the Nottingham Forest winger as their no1 target to strengthen their wide areas, and had a bid of £45million knocked back by their Premier League rivals.

Teamtalk report that Eddie Howe’s side could turn to PSV’s Johan Bakayoko or Karim Adeyemi, the Borussia Dortmund winger, if Elanga’s price tag is deemed too expensive.

Norgaard gets permission for Arsenal medical

Christian Norgaard has received permission to undergo a medical at Arsenal.

Yesterday came the news that the Gunners had seen a bid for the Danish midfielder - also linked with a reunion with Thomas Frank at Tottenham - accepted by Brentford.

Fabrizio Romano reports this morning that Norgaard has got the green light to undergo a medical and finalise his switch from west to north London.

He will become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer following agreed deals for Spain duo Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga, none of which have yet been made official.

Norgaard will be the replacement for Thomas Partey, who is poised to leave the Emirates Stadium when his current contract expires next week with no agreement reached over an extension.

Sesko 'follows' Arsenal as transfer talks continue

Benjamin Sesko’s recent social media activity may have given Arsenal fans cause for excitement.

It has appeared for much of the summer so far like the Slovenian international is the Gunners’ preferred choice over Viktor Gyokeres to become their overdue statement striker signing ahead of a renewed trophy push next season.

However, progress has seemed very slow indeed on that front with both the transfer fee and Sesko’s wage demands reported to be sticking points.

But Sesko now appears to be following Arsenal’s official account on Instagram, which in the modern football world could well be an indicator that things are finally moving in a positive direction.

Chelsea set to clinch Gittens deal

Chelsea appear to be close to a deal for Jamie Gittens.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has been the top target at Stamford Bridge since they made an early summer move to land Liam Delap from Ipswich.

Having failed to clinch the signing of Gittens prior to the Club World Cup, talks have continued over in the United States.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are now close to signing Gittens, though will still have to pay a fee in excess of £50m for the England Under-21 international.

Man Utd close to sealing Mbeumo deal

Manchester United look to finally be closing in on the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.

The Brentford forward has been the next transfer priority at Old Trafford since the early summer swoop to land Matheus Cunha from Wolves and after a first bid was knocked back, a fresh second offer is said to have gone in this week.

The Guardian now report that Manchester United are close to securing a deal for Mbeumo that could be worth almost Brentford’s full asking price of £65m with final talks ongoing over add-ons.

It is said that Mbeumo will at least match Cunha’s wages of around £150,000 a week.

Arsenal get new Gyokeres boost

Arsenal have been handed a new boost in their long-running pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres, reports claim.

The Gunners are targeting the signing of a new top-level striker this summer and are said to have held extensive talks over both Gyokeres and RB Leipzig talisman Benjamin Sesko.

Gyokeres is currently involved in a bitter stand-off with Sporting, who may now have accepted their fate with regards to the prolific Swedish international.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the reigning Portuguese champions have identified his likely successor in Almeria’s Colombian forward Luis Javier Suarez.

Arsenal in negotiations for Madueke

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly locked in negotiations over a deal for Noni Madueke.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Gunners have set their sights on the winger as he is regarded as an alternative to Bukayo Saka.

As a result, the London rivals are now working to find a solution that would suit both parties.

Madueke enjoyed a decent campaign for the Blues last season but faces increased competition for his place next season with the arrival of Estevao from Palmeiras.

Chelsea cash injection

Chelsea have pocketed £8.8million plus their Club World Cup participation fee for reaching the competition’s knockout stages.

The Blues finished as runners up to Flamengo in Group D to set up a round-of-16 meeting with Benfica in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday.

After opening their campaign with a 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC, the Blues lost 3-1 to Flamengo last Friday. However, they made sure of their progression to the last 16 by beating Tunisian outfit ES Tunis 3-0 on Wednesday.

By reaching the knockout stages, the Blues have earned more than £8.8m in prize money, and more is on offer if they make it past Benfica and advance further in the competition.
