The winds of change are sweeping through the Etihad as Manchester City prepares for a significant shift between the posts. With the confirmed departure of their stalwart goalkeeper, Ederson, to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, the Premier League champions are moving decisively to secure a new number one.
As transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed, the Brazilian's move to Istanbul is now official, with Fenerbahçe finalizing a deal worth approximately €13-14 million. This paves the way for a new era, one that City's hierarchy envisions will be guarded by Italian titan Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper is poised to make the switch for a fee in the region of €30-35 million, having already committed his long-term future to the Citizens with a signed contract.
Ederson's exit marks the end of a remarkable chapter. Arriving from Benfica in 2017 for €40 million, he became a foundational piece of Pep Guardiola's project, amassing 372 appearances and an impressive 168 clean sheets—a testament to his consistency and quality.
In a related development, the club's business appears to be extending beyond the goalmouth. AC Milan have initiated preliminary discussions with City's representatives over a potential deal for Manuel Akanji, signalling that the defensive reshuffle could continue. The Rossoneri have expressed interest in the 30-year-old Swiss international centre-back, suggesting more moves could be on the horizon before the window closes.
