Tottenham travel to face Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday evening with Ange Postecoglou under pressure.
The North London side sit 12th in the Premier League table and have won just once in their last eight across all competitions. Last weekend, Spurs blew a two-goal lead to lose at home to Chelsea, before battling to a 1-1 draw at Rangers in the Europa League.
Postecoglou’s team are currently eight points adrift of the top four and Champions League qualification.
The trip to St Mary’s could be the ideal opportunity to turn things around. The Saints are bottom of the Premier League table and the lowest scorers in the league. Both sides, or rather managers, have been accused of lacking adaptability. The clash has been nicknamed the ‘Principles Derby’.
Postecoglou is dealing with a wealth of big name absentees with Yves Bissouma the latest to join the Spurs stars sidelined. The midfielder is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season last time out and joins the banned Rodrigo Bentancur in being unavailable.
Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies are all out to leave centre-back stocks short and teenager Archie Gray could continue in an unfamiliar defensive role. Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, Richarlison and Guglielmo Vicario are all out. Timo Werner is unlikely to feature from the start after Postecoglou publicly slammed the German’s performance at Rangers. There could be opportunity for the emerging Lucas Bergvall and Djed Spence.
Tottenham: Forster; Spence, Dragusin, Gray, Udogie; Bergvall, Sarr, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Johnson.
Southampton host Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday 15th December 2024. Kick-off at St Mary’s is 19:00 GMT.
Southampton vs Tottenham will be shown on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and Discovery+.
