Brennan Johnson says that he does not care about what his critics think. The Wales international scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season with two against Southampton on Sunday but has struggled to win over many of the club’s supporters.

Tottenham go into their Europa League quarter-final first leg tie against Frankurt in 14th place in the Premier League and out of the FA Cup. Winning the Europa League looks like their only chance of achieving Champions League football for next season.

Despite scoring 16 goals for Tottenham this season, the Welsh winger has faced criticism from Spurs fans. But he insists that he feels supported within the club and wants to win the Europa League for the staff and management at Tottenham Hotspur.

“I just want to win the Europa League for the group of players and the staff that we have,” Johnson said. “I don’t really care about what other people say and the critics to be honest.

“I feel like I switched off from that a long time ago. I love the lads, all the players in the squad, all the staff, the managment team. I feel like we have created a really tight knit group. We’ve all been under a lot of criticism, it’s something we can all relate to. We all have that understanding of each other.

“So when it comes to tournaments like this and being able to progress it is something that we are trying to do for each other, because we have had some tough times and it would be no better joy to be able to celebrate it with the people that have had to go through it like I have.”

Johnson’s former club Nottingham Forest sit thiurdrd in the Premier League and look set to achieve Champions football for next season. Despite this the winger insists that he has no regrets about joining Tottenham two years ago..

“I’m happy for for Nottingham Forest and the season that they’re having, but I’m delighted to be here. I’ve loved it every second.

“The size of the club and the people within the club and the fans. It’s something that I couldn’t only wish for when I was younger.”

In injury time of the game against Southampton Johnson was brought down in the area by Saints defender Welington, giving Spurs a chance from the spot to seal all three points.

The winger, already on two goals, looked destined to seal his hat trick, but instead Tel was given the ball and stroked home from 12 yards. The Welshman made it clear that he was not upset about the decision.

“I think anyone would want to take it but once a decision had been made it’s not really in my nature to argue or have a fight about who takes the penalty. I’ve seen situations before where people are really reluctant to let someone else have a penalty and it can put you off.

“So once the ball was with Mathys Tel I just wanted to get on the edge of the box and support him and he put it away.” he said

“He’s a quality player as well. So it’s not like I’m doubting his quality, as soon as the ball was put in his hands I backed him to score.”
