Tottenham Hotspur host Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie this evening.
Ange Postecoglou boldly declared earlier this season that he ‘usually’ wins silverware in his second season and Spurs can take a step closer to breaking their trophy drought tonight.
The North Londoners have not won silverware since last lifting this trophy in 2008, a barren run of 17 years. Spurs head into the contest in poor form having failed to win in three games. Postecoglou’s side are 12th in the Premier League table after a difficult campaign to date.
Their opposition are looking to defend the Carabao Cup after winning a record-extending 10th title last season. Liverpool are continuing to compete on all fronts and lead both the Premier League and Champions League. The Reds swept to a 6-3 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just last month.
Antonin Kinsky is in line to make his debut for Tottenham after the club completed a £13.3m deal to sign the goalkeeper from Slavia Prague at the weekend. The 21-year-old reinforces Postecoglou’s depleted stocks with Guglielmo Vicario out injured and Fraser Forster unwell.
Rodrigo Bentancur is back available after suspension, while Richarlison and Mikey Moore have returned to training. However, the semi-final could come too soon for the forward pair.
Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Wilson Odobert remain in the treatment room for Spurs.
Tottenham predicted XI: Kinsky; Porro, Gray, Dragusin, Spence; Bentancur, Bergvall, Kulusevski; Johnson, Solanke, Son.
Tottenham Hotspur host Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday 8th January 2025. Kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is 8pm GMT.
