In a recent report, ESPN stated that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons. It is believed that Spurs are eager to get a deal done for the Dutch attacker this summer.
Simons enjoyed a decent season at the German club after he produced a handful of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Dutch talent participated in 33 matches for RB Leipzig in the previous campaign, scoring 11 goals and securing eight assists in all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a reliable performer in the opposition half as he averaged 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 46% of his attempts on target. Simons was even accurate when distributing possession based on his pass completion rate of 78.6% in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Red Bull Arena will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap this off-season.

Simons can make a few driving runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. The Dutch sensation has also got the vision to create some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
Simons is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to land him this summer.
We can expect Simons to bring more firepower to Tottenham‘s frontline. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular starting spot at the North London club.
At 22, Simons has got a bright future ahead and would be a great fit for Spurs’ needs in the long run. However, Tottenham would have to be patient with his progress as the player might need some time to adjust to life in North London.
