In a recent report, The Telegraph stated that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha this summer. It has been mentioned that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the Portuguese talent back to the English capital this off-season.

Palhinha’s Impressive Form In German Football

Palhinha managed to shine at times for the Bavarian club in the previous campaign but missed a lot of games for them due to injury. The Portuguese midfield ace made 25 appearances for Bayern Munich last season across all fronts.

The 30-year-old offered decent protection for his teammates at the back as he made 20 tackles, 13 blocks and 4 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was even careful when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 92.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com).

His current deal at the Allianz Arena will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for the North London club to get him on a cut-price deal in this transfer period.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Go For Palhinha?

Palhinha is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. Standing at 1.90m, Palhinha is a strong presence in the air and usually consistent with his performances in the middle of the park.

The Portugal international has already got a wealth of experience in Premier League football from his time at Fulham and won’t take any time to settle into life at Tottenham.

Palhinha would enhance the quality of Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank’s attack. He has what it takes to secure regular first-team football at the North London club next season.

At 30, Palhinha has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Thus, he would be a decent signing for Spurs in the short term. He will also help the North London club challenge across all competitions over the next few years.
